Durham United 2-3 Wolviston FC

Durham United 2-3 Wolviston FC

Matt Stevenson18 Sep 2020 - 09:09

Visitors comeback leads to defeat

As per Dean Smiths programme notes "we have yet to win - or do ourselves justice - against Wolviston"

For 43 minutes of the first half, it looked as though that baron run was going to come to an end.

An early goal from Steven Telford on his debut settled any early nerves and a Ross Tottle goal midway through the first half saw Durham race into a 2 goal lead looking comfortable and as though there was only going to be 1 winner in the game.

If the half time whistle came in the 43rd minute we may have been writing a different match report with Durham taking the 2 goal lead into the break.

The half time whistle, of course, didn't come until the 45th and in those 2 extra minutes, we saw the game turn on its head and us conceding 2 goals to go in at the break level.

Wolvisotn pulled 1 back before goalkeeper Mark Hodgson dropped a cross allowing the equaliser.

Into the second half and Wolviston took the lead through a swift attack seeing the striker finishing well past Hodgson.

Despite plenty of effort from Durham, the Wolvsiton defence could not be broken down for an equaliser so it ended in a 3-2 defeat from such a promising position.

A game with some real positives in the first half but also a game which shows how we can't afford mistakes in the Wearside League.

Tomorrow we travel to Norton & Stockton Ancients for a first meeting in the league.

The reserves are due to be at home this evening against former champions Wheatley Hill.

Both games are of course dependant on what advice we receive from our Local FA after yesterdays local lockdown announcement. Keep an eye on our social media channels for updates.

If games do go ahead the Women's team are due to play a historic first ever FA Cup game at home on Sunday against Workington FC
